Objectives:
Students will be able to: Examine character development in a text Identify motifs and themes in a text Analyze patterns, trends, and common themes throughout a text

Materials: Invisible Man texts Procedures: Warm Up: Pass out novel evaluation/survey/questionnaire What stands out for you in the novel so far? What are you interested in investigating further? What dont you like about the novel? What has worked well in class so far (activities, assignments, taking beginning of class to find quotes and gather thoughts, reading journals)? What has not worked well in class? What would help you become more interested/engaged Suggestions for future classes, discussion topics, activities related to the novel Discussion: In small groups, students will work to find answers to the following questions: Why does Mr. Emerson try to disillusion IM? Is Emerson blind? Students will share ideas with the class and discuss why Emerson tries to help IM Why does Emerson also feel invisible? Homework: Read Ch. 11, quote, comment, question Assessment: Participation in discussion, notes from reading homework Standards:
