Holiday festivities take

place from December 12( day of Mexicans saint, Lady of Guadalupe to January 6 ( Three Kings day). Holiday Celebrations come from Spanish and Ingenious roots

Posadas symbolizes Catholicism when Jesus

parents were looking for a place to stay. There are 9 Posadas, from december 16 to the 24th. It also symbolizes 9 months of pregnancy.

LA PIATA

In Posadas ( party celebration) there are many piatas for children . Children sing: "Dale, dale, dale, no pierdas el tino, porque si lo pierdes, pierdes el camino, Una, dos, tres!" Go, Go Go, dont miss the hit, because if you loose it you loose your way, one , two , three.

PASTORELAS
Pastorelas in Mexico are a work of the fight against good and evil. Children act in biblical plays. Pastorelas are humorous.

FLOR DE NOCHE BUENA (Poinsettias)

Flower of good night.

Poinsettias are native of Mexico

NOCHE BUENA
Christmas Eve is

considered Noche Buena. At midnight, people attend midnight mass.

Comida!!

Christmas eve, people eat tamales, champurado(made of cornmeal and chocolate). Ponche caliente ( water with sugar and dried fruit) Pavo- Turkey Bunuelos (cinnamon fried tortilla)

NAVIDAD
(Christmas day)

Christmas day , people gather with their family, and eat recalentados( Left overs)

AO NUEVO
December 31 to

January 1 Big Party! Friends and families celebrate with music, food and dancing They eat 12 grapes at midnight, one for each month, 12 wishes

DIA DE REYES
January 6 Three Kings day( Wise men) The tradition in Mexico for Epiphany, Three Kings Day is that children leave their shoes at the door so they can be filled with the gifts (Three Kings: Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar)

They eat Rosca de Reyes. Sweet Bread crown.

ROSCA DE REYES

Bread especially made for the occasion in the form of a crown, decorated with dried fruits and a small doll inside. (Meaning the child God) Sometimes there are 3, depends on the Bread Crown. Person who cuts a piece of bread and has the doll, they have to make a party with tamales February 2.
