Praxis™ Performance Assessment for Teachers Task 1 Contextual Factors Chart

This chart is designed to help you to understand that many factors affect teaching and learning. They include the community, classroom procedures, the students, and the physical environment in which you will be teaching. All this information will help you to determine teaching strategies and approaches that will support your students’ learning. The community of these students is rural. This school is in a small town, Abbeville South Carolina with a

small population. The population of Abbeville South Carolina as of 2010 was 5,237. The town had 2,645 (50.46%) Caucasians, 2,645 (48.48%) of African Americans, 10 Native Americans (.12%), and 23 (.75%) of mixed races including Asian, Hispanic, and Latino.


The district school has an enrollment of 3,057 students. Abbeville has a combination of four schools

in the district. The district has a primary school, elementary school, high school, as well as a career center that they share with surrounding counties. The graduation rate of the district is 83.6%. The percentage of students with IEP’s is private information is not available. The average per pupil expenditure is 9,177 dollars a year, per student.


The school is very small, in the fact that it is a primary

IEP’s. The school participates in stdent of the month recgonition throughout the year to recgonize students that continously do their best. There are 207 Caucasian students, 231 African American students, 9 American Indian students and 10 students of mixed races. There is also a 19.2:1 ratio of teachers to students.

Classroom Demographics

There are 20 students in my classroom. There are 11 girls, and 9 boys. The students range from ages 5 to 7, with two repeating students. There are 9 Caucasian students, and 11 African American students. There is

only one student that receives resources. There are no students that receive speech, however there are five students in the class that are on medication. There are also four students participating in higher grade level work. The class functions with a teacher, a teacher’s assistant, and a student teacher. The five students that receive medication also need one on one help throughout the day. One thing that all students share is the desire to learn.

Knowledge of Students

There are different learning styles throughout the

Learning styles, prior learning/experiences, academic proficiencies, behavioral differences, and areas of interest

classroom. A lot of the students learn through kinesthetic lessons, as well as visually and musically. The students are all different and definitely behave in different manners. The student’s interest are all in the same category. The students enjoy playing, and learning through play.
