Chapter __5_____ Key Points: The amount of homework should vary in the amount of time in elementary, middle school, and high school each having progressive impact on each Parent involvement in the homework should be more of facilitation, with letting the student to solve content. Chapter __7_____ Cooperative Learning Key Points: There are five elements of Cooperative Learning: Positive Interdependence, Face to Face promotive interaction, individual and group accountability, interpersonal and small group skills, and group processing Should not use grouping by abilities it could have negative impact on learning Cooperative Learning groups should be kept small 1-2 (like a share and pair) 3-4 learning groups Take Aways: All these enhance learning and can be used in a social studies classroom Keep Cooperative Learning to a systematic minimum to keep its effectiveness Formal groups are used to have enough time to complete project Informal groups (pair/share; turn to your allow time to process more content and focus students Think to use a cooperative learning for an end of semester project in the classroom

Chapter __8_____ Setting Objectives and Providing Feedback Key Points: Instructional goals narrow what student should focus on in their learning Instructional goals should not be to specific Student should be encouraged to personalize the teachers goals by adapting them Feedback should be corrective, timely, criterion specific in nature in reference to the skill of content knowledge Take Aways: All these enhance learning and can be used in a social studies classroom The use of specific but general enough to provide flexibility for the student, possible to use on end of semester project Use of a contract to allow specific goal and control over in completion of that goal More timely feedback on tests or papers in order to with both positive and corrective feedbacks Use of student lead feedback, which can be used in the project both by the group or other groups.
