Mr. Marshall

Second observance by Dinah Franz

7:55

Mr. Marshall took attendance with our homeroom class and then visited with the kids until the bell rang .

8:00-8:25

Mr. Marshall started practice for the reading part of the MCAs. All students had a practice packet and he led them through reading each selection and answering the questions. He explained each selection and why each answer was the correct choice. Great discussion.

8:23-8:30

Students collected supplies and all went to their specific classrooms to start core classes

8:30

Social Studies with Mr. Weyerss class began. Mr. Marshall greeted the class and started his Daily Activity with the class. He creates these activities on power point for all classes. Todays activity was about math sequencing. He also had some great pictures and facts of the day about mosquitoes and exotic pets. CNN student news was played for the students.

8:45

Todays lesson was working on the social studies packet. He does the packet with the students to make sure they are getting down the correct answers and understanding the questions. He walked around the classroom making sure all students are on task. He chose students to read their answers aloud, also checking for correct answers and understanding.

9:10

Class ended and students traveled to their next class. Mr. Marshall greeted the next class to begin teaching social studies to them.

Reflection: Bell work seems to engage the students from the beginning of class and works well on all classes. One area in the CNN area is the need for students to make connections to the news. At times I find myself jumping on questions as the students are think of how to respond. I have attempted to be mindful of that and need to work on pacing of both the questions and the lesson. We did practice reading for the MCA reading exam, and an area of work is needed in language arts if teaching 5th and 6th grade. Overall things did go well. Another area of work is classroom management. I have to SSSSHHHH way to many times in a class period and need to start making positive comments for appropriate behavior.
