WILLOW CREEK ACADEMY

March 31, 2014 To Whom It May Concern: It is my pleasure to recommend Ena Ebanks for elementary level teaching positions. Her positive attributes will make her a great addition to any school. I met Ena when she joined our team as a substitute teacher at Willow Creek Academy in the 2012-13 school year. She came on board as a permanent classroom teacher after the start of the 2013-14 school year when the former fifth grade teacher left his position for personal reasons. She embraced the challenge of teaching on an Intern Credential, working full time in the classroom while completing her credentialing classes and coursework, and I have served as her Intern Support Provider this year. I am impressed by Enas strong sense of purpose and her openness to feedback and new ideas. Her class includes a number of students who are facing difficult family situations and learning challenges. Each day, she brings compassion and a strong desire to help every student feel included and acknowledged. I have observed her instructional and classroom management skills grow by leaps and bounds this year. She is developing skill at differentiating and scaffolding lessons to meet each students needs. I have had the great pleasure of modeling lessons for her over the course of the year, and I have seen her immediately apply strategies that she finds valuable to her students. Ena embodies the most important attributes an educator can have: flexibility, patience, strong organizational skills, a great sense of humor, and integrity. She has developed positive relationships with students, families, and school staff, and we can always count on her to be a member of our team. Our school serves students in grades K-8 in a district that draws students from the affluent community of Sausalito and the lower-income community of Marin City. In addition to being socio-economically diverse, our student population is ethnically diverse: 30 percent Latino, 30 percent white, 20 percent African American, 10 percent Asian, and 10 percent other. About 30 percent of our students are English Learners, and about 50 percent receive free or reduced price lunch. I have observed Ena consistently use the values of equity and inclusion as touchstones in her work with families and students. For these reasons, I believe she will be a great addition to your team. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or need more information. Best regards,
