3-7 Gross Motor

The theme for week five was Instruments. At the beginning of the week the children used their gross motor skills to preform a variety of physical tasks. All of the children had the chance to spin the spinner which revealed the physical task that they were to preform during Instrument Twister. For that particular spin children were instructed to place one hand on a drum. ,Wendy, and Maggie all dropped to their knees and crawled towards the large green spaces with the red drum on them. Wendy then placed one had on the green section of the mat. All three children were demonstrating Indianas Physical Objective 1.9 Enjoying movement activities.
Later in the week the children were given shakers while the, Shaker Song played. The song had various gross motor movements in it that the children followed along to. Liam grasped the shaker with two hands and bent his elbows then extended his arms. He repeated this action several times and grinned as he did it. Liam was demonstrating Indianas Physical Objective 3.15 Performs basic rhythmical skills alone and/or with a partner.

Finally, the children were encouraged to stand up while the Shaker Song was played. The song instructed the children to wave the shakers, Up high. When Maggie and Evey heard this portion of the song they immediately raised one arm high in the air and moved there arm quickly left and right.
