I am not happy with the outcome of the budget adoption. Am I surpised? Absolutely not.

The BOE holds the majority of the votes. These players always vote the same; just check the voting records. The reality is that the players are beholding to the President of the BOE and are there simply as pawns to do their bidding. I cannot believe that the future of our School District and our children's success is in the hands of these individuals. For the first time in years, the BOE is being held accountable by the community. They do not like it and are trying to now get new members voted to the BOE. They are trying to remove D. Dodson and M. McCray. These ladies, along with Kelly Valentin, do their homework, they are ethical, honest and believe in transparency and accountability. The reality is that the school has surplus dollars in the millions. They keep coming up with reasons why the millions in excess can't be returned to the taxpayers and/or be used for real expenses to better our children's education. I plan on following their budget very closely. By the end of the FY = June 30, 2014, they should have quite a bit of surplus dollars left. What they will do, as they have done in the past, is to shift the $$ to reserve and undistributed accounts. They must do this in order to not go over the 4% surplus allowable for the next fiscal year. I plan on examining where the surplus dollars end up. It is absolutely offensive that they think we are stupid and don't know what they are doing. We have to get transparency and accountability from this board. They are controlling millions of dollars and have too much control over the future of our community. We need a majority on the board to start voting down the things the current majority on this board is doing. Only then can we help get our town, schools and community on track for academic success and economic stability.
