Equality NC is a nonprofit group that is committed to building a better future for all North Carolinians. Members works tirelessly to help the state secure the most comprehensive protections in the nation while focusing on creating a North Carolina that fosters respect, dignity and equality for all LGBT people, including in the workplace and on the job. I used this source to help me in the creation of my brochure since I made up a fictitious nonprofit organization. "Cost of Wedding." Wedding Budget vs Real Wedding Cost. The Wedding Report, 2014. Web. The company that runs this website, The Wedding Report, gives couples an idea of how much they can expect to spend for their own wedding in the county they live, but also how much other couples spend. Everything from venue to Save the Date cards is priced out. I used this site for both my genres in estimating the revenue our state could potentially bring in. "Gay Marriage." ProCon. Nonpartisan, Nonprofit. 2014. Web ProCon.org is a nonprofit public charity. Their purpose is to provide resources for critical thinking and to educate without bias. They research issues that are controversial and important, and present them in a balanced, comprehensive, straightforward format. This source is what made me see that the fight for same-sex marriage is much more than just opinions. There are many more factors that are gained through the legalization of this law. Gartrell, Nanette MD, and Henny Bos, PhD, "US National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study: Psychological Adjustment of 17-Year-Old Adolescents," Pediatrics, July 7, 2010 According to this study, the legalization of same-sex marriage not only brings financial benefits to a state, but also gives children who need to be adopted good homes. The objective of this study was to document the psychological

adjustment of adolescents who were conceived through donor insemination and raised by lesbian mothers. Between 1986 and 1992, 154 prospective lesbian mothers volunteered for this study that was designed to follow planned lesbian families from the children's conception until they reached adulthood. According to the mothers reports, their 17-year-old daughters and sons were rated significantly higher in social, school/academic, and total competence and significantly lower in social problems, rule-breaking, aggressive, and externalizing problem behavior than their age-matched counterparts. Therefore proving that gay/lesbian mothers and fathers are just as capable, if not more, of raising children as heterosexual couples. "North Carolina QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau." US Department of Commerce. US Census Bureau, 27 Mar. 2014. Web. Run by the United States Census Bureau, this official government website provides you with every census ever taken. You can easily find the information you need by looking up your state or even county. These statistics further helped me to calculate potential revenue for our state. Office of Fiscal and Budget Studies. Love Counts: The Economic Benefits of Marriage Equality for New York (Office of the New York City Comptroller). New York, New York: William C. Thompson, Jr., 2007. Print. This study is focused on the economical benefits of legalizing same-sex marriage in the state of New York. Although this study only reflects the gain of one state, it is my perception that every state would share the same or comparable economical benefits as New York. The study done by the comptroller of New York at the time, found that in 2005, there were 50,854 same-sex couples living together and residing in New York State. The Comptrollers Office estimated that the economic impact of marriage equality would add $142 million, on a net basis, to New York Citys economy during the first three years following legislative approval. It would add about $184 million, on a net basis, in spending to the States economy. The $142 million benefit to New York Citys economy included spending on weddings by New York State residents who lived outside the City but choose to marry there. The Comptrollers Office estimates that the State will collect about $8 million more in taxes and save more than $100 million in outlays on health care, while the city would collect about $7 million in taxes and fees and experience no impact on outlays. The study also

included detailed tables that broke down certain cost, like the average cost of a wedding in certain states to help people better understand the financial gain of their state. UCLA School of Law. "Same-Sex Couples In Your State." Our Families Count. Human Rights Campaign Foundation and The Williams Institute, 2009. Web. Launched in the fall of 2009, Our Families Count is an entirely voluntary public education campaign. This campaign represents a collaborative effort by leaders and community organizers across the LGBT and ally spectrum in America. This may have been the most important site I used because it provided me with the number of same-sex couples in our state and every other state.
