Spring, 2014 Instructor: Ms. Xiao Han Office: Education Building B110 Office Hours: By appointment E-mail: haxi1201@stcloudstate.edu __________________________________________________________________ Course Description Development of elementary listening skills, including comprehension of content and function words, collocations, dialogues and narrative passages. Course Goal Understand almost everything if people are speaking slowly and clearly and respond to oral input. Course Objectives Level 1 students should be able to understand almost everything if people are speaking slowly and should be able to respond to oral input. Student Learning Outcomes You will hear and recognize key content and function words. You will hear and distinguish words within a sentence. You will hear and respond to functional dialogues and sentences. Materials You will need a pen, pencil and notebook or loose leaf paper for note taking You have to bring your book Interchange fourth edition by Jack C. Richards. You will also watch some video clips provided by the instructor. You are expected to Attend all classes. Arrive, be seated, and be ready to begin class on time. Turn off or mute cellphones. Participate in class activities and discussions. Complete all homework assignments on time. Instructor will NOT accept late assignments. There will be NO extra credits given out. Attendance Attendance is mandatory. You MUST attend class.

If you do not attend class, you will lose participation points (2 points each time) and your final grade will go down. If you are absent, you will be expected to talk with other students in the class or me about homework assignments. Absence due to illness is excused if you notify the instructor in writing via email before the beginning of class.

Academic Honesty You are expected to do your own work. Using the work of another as your own, or giving your work to someone else to use as his/her own, will result in a failing grade for that assignment. Students who do not receive an AVERAGE of a C (2.0 GPA) may be required to repeat their current level.
