Standards Objectives:
South Dakota Music Standard: Students will demonstrate the ability to read an instrumental or vocal score of up to four staves Students will sing with expression and technical accuracy a large and varied repertoire of vocal literature, which requires well developed technical skills, attention to phrasing and interpretation, and ability to perform various meters and rhythms in a variety of keys, including some songs performed from memory. Students will sing music written in four parts, with and without accompaniment.
Behavioral Objectives
As a result of this activity students will: perform an appropriate part in an ensemble, demonstrating well-developed ensemble skills.
Assessment I will be able to assess the students by means of their performance in class and using informal assessment throughout the lesson by listening to their sound.
Teaching Strategies
Anticipatory Set : When the students come into the classroom I will take attendance and begin warm ups.
Procedure: We will begin with pages 2-4 which weve already covered and review any places that need to be touched up on. Then we will continue with everyone singing the baritone line, then everyone singing the tenor line. The baritones and tenors will go threw the selected part by themselves. After that the altos will sing their part, with the sopranos also singing the alto part. Then I will build having the bottom 3 parts sing. The last group to learn their part will be the sopranos since it is the melody, and its a song that many know and will have the tendency to sing. If we have time, the group will sing slowly all together the sections we have covered.
Closure : Students will put their music and folders away in their appropriate slots.
Modifications for special needs or cultural differences: N/A
Classroom discipline/management: students will be expected to follow classroom rules and are to keep in their space to detract from disturbing other students while they are performing.
1. The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have done unto you. 2. No gum! 3. No food or drink in class, except water.
Students will loose points for being disruptive in class or not singing! A total of 5 points is available for daily participation. If bad behavior persists, students will loose all points and be sent to the office for detention.
Classroom organization I will be leading by example. Assisting the students in finding the correct pitches and by demonstrating correct vocal technique.
