Reflection on Positions Synthesis & Annotated Bibliography
I wrote my positions synthesis mainly about Facebook and narcissism and in doing so I
didnt only develop an understanding of the positions taken on this specific topic, but I also
developed an understanding of the benefits of having an open-mind and how to properly do
online research. In doing my research I was mostly expecting to find negative positions, but to
my surprise, I also discovered a few positive positions. After reading about those different views
my own opinion, that I had previously assumed was a solid view, became fragmented and
unsure. I feel that this experience will change my future choices in opinions on controversial
topics and will prevent illogical assumptions because now I have seen there is quite a bit more
than just two sides to an opinion.
This new understanding of the benefits of having an open-mind will help me in many of
my classes, my desired career, and in my everyday life because overall it will enable me to view
things from every angle before creating an assumption from gathered misinformation and
claiming it to be logical. Having this ability will ensure that I make logical opinions and avoid
criticisms in school and my future career. As for my new resources and understanding I have for
online research, I will definitely use that in school and in my everyday life and doing so will
benefit me by allowing me to provide reliable evidence to back up my logical opinions that I will
potentially develop. Overall this positions synthesis paper has guided me to understand that in

gathering reliable information on a topic will cause a more in-depth evaluation on that topic than
one that would arise from a mere assumption.
