Wellness Syllabus
Description: Wellness is the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the
result of deliberate effort (Dictionary.com). Many of the habits formed in adolescence carry
with us into adulthood. This class provides 7th and 8th graders with the opportunity to form
healthy habits by gaining awareness of the many social, emotional, and physical challenges that
adolescents face, and learning the tools necessary for dealing with pressures and making
healthy decisions.

Make up missed work. If you are absent for any reason, you are still expected to turn in a
completed workbook at the end of the term. It is your responsibility to talk to the teacher about
what you missed and getting help if you fall behind.
Wellness class sometimes focuses on sensitive and personal issues. You must work to listen to one
another, maintain a respectful attitude and open mind, and keep judgments to yourselves. You
will gain a lot more from topics discussed if everyone feels comfortable to express themselves.
You are generally expected to use the bathroom and water fountain before and after Wellness
class.
Discipline procedure: Minor misbehavior after one or more warnings will result in a break. If
more than one break is given, student may receive a green sheet or detention after school to
make up for lost learning time.
Pencils. You are expected to come prepared to class. If you do not have a writing utensil, a
point will be deducted from your daily citizenship grade.
Wellness class can involve a lot of self-reflection. The more work you put into it, the more you
will get out of it!
Grading: Citizenship Grade 30%, Workbook 30%, Tests/Quizzes: 20%, Internet Safety Work: 20%
Grading will be based on rubrics below. Each day, students will receive a citizenship grade, and every 2
