This report presents your school's individual results for the 2012-13 Adams County Student Survey,
administered by the Adams County Youth Initiative (ACYI). The report includes:
(1) Students responses to key items that are linked to ACYIs purpose of decreasing delinquency and
substance use and increasing high school graduation rates.
(2) A table of all survey results for your school by compared to the district.
Past years' data for your school are included as a comparison, but note that some questions were added to
the survey more recently, so data for those items are not available for all years. Although STEM Launch is a
new school, we have included data for Niver Creek Middle School from 2008-10, as most Niver Creek students
now attend STEM Launch.
Methods/Sample
Response Rates: At STEM Launch School, 375 students completed the survey. As of November 2012, enrollment for
grades six through eight was 610. The response rate for this school was 61%. A high response rate is preferred in survey
research in order to achieve adequate power to demonstrate changes from one year to the next and to ensure that the
sample that took part in the survey is representative of the larger population that was surveyed (i.e., all students).
Whether differences exist between those students who responded to the survey compared to those who did not is not
known. Therefore, care must be taken in generalizing the results to the entire school population when response rates
are lower than 70 to 75%.
Survey Sample Characteristics: The gender distribution of the students surveyed was 49% male and 51% female.
The following tables present, in more detail, the demographic makeup of the students who responded to the 2011
Adams County Student Survey.
Table 1 represents the proportion of students who completed the survey in each grade level for the school.

Table 2 shows the racial/ethnic background of the students who completed the survey for the school. Students were
allowed to choose more than one category. Students were asked separately if they were Hispanic or Latino.
