Nutrition on the Web Project (Protein) Due to my recent interest in the effects of protein on the body, I decided to loo into it more !hen I came across an article that focuses on !hether or not people are consuming enough protein in their diet. This "uestion !as mainly from those types of people that are aiming to!ards a high protein diet in an attempt to lose more !eight and lie to but items lie protein bars and meats. To my surprise, I found out that people actually do consume their daily re"uirements of protein early in the day. This is due to the fact that protein is a substance that is #ery essential for the human body and in turn is found throughout #arious forms of food !hich all become responsible for our protein intae. $#en processed foods that contain saturated fats contain proteins !hich mae that category a part of the long list of foods that pro#ide protein. Since this is the case, !e ha#e to become more focused of refusing foods that are high in saturated fats since it !ouldn%t mae a difference !hen it comes to the consumption of proteins. Instead, !e should focus more on the necessary amount of proteins needed in the human body and !or to!ards staying !ithin that region. The recommended amounts of protein are about t!o to three ser#ings of protein rich foods &a ser#ing being e"ui#alent to lean meats that are in portions similar to a dec of cards'. (t first I started to "uestion the reliability of this article due to the fact that there !asn%t a direct source as to the publishers of the article. )o!e#er, as I continued to read, I began to find references to recent studies helped me in shedding some light as to !here these publishers !ere getting their information from. I began to trust the article more because not only did they ha#e sources lie *International +ood Information ,ouncil- and *Nurse%s )ealth Study- but they !ere also studies that occurred "uite recently &!ithin the past ten years'. (nother aspect that I got a loo at is the terminology that they use throughout the article. It doesn%t sound lie someone that is sho!ing any form of biased beha#ior nor does it sound lie someone !ithout intellect !rote this article. (ll of these reasons and more ha#e helped me in my analysis of this articles reliability. This article has helped me in finding the true role of protein !hen it comes to the consumption of foods. (lthough the unit lectures do help in sho!ing me the role of protein !ithin the human body, it still didn%t gi#e me that personal approach &pertaining to dieting and ho! saturated foods also ha#e a significant amount of protein'. +rom this fact, this article has taught me to be more cautious !ith the foods I eat !hen it comes to the amount of saturated fats I consume. .hen it comes to protein itself, it is good to no! that there are many different !ays that I can go as to consuming the recommended amount of protein needed for people to sur#i#e. I plan to tae a second loo at the protein count that each food had to help #ary out !hich !ould be a better benefit for my diet. Are You Getting Enough Protein? Facts From Tufts University of Health & Nutrition Letter (ccording to the National /ibrary of Medicine, most adults can meet their daily protein needs !ith t!o to three ser#ings of protein0rich foods The recommended ser#ing si1e of protein is similar to t!o to three ounces of either lean meat, poultry, or fish &!hich happen to be about the si1e of a dec of cards More similar ser#ing si1es include one egg, t!o tablespoons of peanut butter, and one ounce of cheese 2ne0half cup of dried beans also count as a ser#ing si1e of high protein Nutrition e3perts argue that lac of protein isn%t necessarily an issue but rather the e3cess consumption of calories and fats that are consumed along !ith the protein. It is certain that the 4ecommended Dietary (llo!ance &4D(' of protein rests at 56 grams a day for females and 76 grams a day for males In actuality, people tend to e3ceed these daily limits !ith females consuming about 68 to 66 grams of protein per day and the males consuming amounts from 99 to :8 grams of protein daily. During a 8018 +ood ; )ealth sur#ey, around 59< of the consumers had polled saying that they are trying to consume more proteins &3:< polled the pre#ious year' Some reasons for *pacing the protein- included 6:< of the sur#eyors saying that protein helps eep you full as !ell as 60< of them saying that a high0protein diet can help in promoting !eight loss In similarity to all other nutrients in the human body, although protein may be beneficial to your health that still doesn%t mean that more of it is better. .hen cooing red meat or any other type of animal proteins, they soon become dangerous by creating compounds that ha#e been no!n to be related !ith cancer &this mainly occurs !hen meat is close to a charring point
