Information & Statistics... It is recommended that children aged between 5 and 18 years do a MINIMUM of 60 minutes of physical activity every day! Australian Institute of Health and Welfare suggests - Only about a quarter of children aged between five and 15 years had at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. - 1 in 4 Australian children are obese or overweight - About 1 in 25 (3.8%) students aged 1214 were smokers, according to the 2008 Australian Secondary School Students Alcohol and Drugs Survey. 2007 Australian National Childrens Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey suggests - There was almost always a greater percentage of active boys than girls - Only one in three children are physically active every day - Children now spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of a screen (e.g., TV, videogames, computer). - A minority of children ate the recommended daily amount of vegetables. - About 55% of boys and 40% of girls reported drinking at least 2 quantities of 500ml of soft drink every day
