Lesson plan 7

Date: October 21, 2009 Level: Second year of high school

Skill: Listening, reading and writing.

Expected Outcomes: Students will be able to predict information, to listen and to comprehend spoken information in
English; they will be able to identify general and specific information.
Students will be able to read instructions and solve questions in order to go to the next stage of a game.
Students will be able to write sentences encouraging people to look after the planet.

Resources: markers, whiteboard, data show, envelopes with clues and instructions, scissors, pens, pencils, cardboard.

Introduction

Take roll call 3’

Objectives presentation 2’ Students will be told about what the lesson is going to be about and what the main
objectives are.

Core of the class

Review 5’ Students will be asked to talk about what they learned in the previous session in
order to teach the next content based on their previous knowledge.

Video (listening): Video about what would happen if the Earth warms by 4 degrees.
“ 4 degrees warmer”

• Pre-listening: 5’ The teacher will review some vocabulary words key to understand the video about
Vocabulary check global warming. Students then will have to predict the content of the video.

• While-listening 3’ Students will watch the video to get a general idea.

7’ Then, students will be given a set of “true or false” sentences and will watch the
video again in order to answer the statements.

3’ The video will be played a third time.

• Post-listening 12’ Students will have to answer the true or false statements and will have to justify
their answers

“Winning Race” (group 20’ Students will be divided into 8 groups of 5. Each group will be given an envelope
activity) with instructions or clues, riddles, questions, fill in sentences, etc; they will have to
read and solve them. When the group complete the activity has to go to the
teacher in order to check it and get the next envelope. The team that finds the
treasure wins.

Class Project 25’ Students will have to form groups of 5; they will have to create a poster to
encourage people to take care of the planet, then the posters will be pasted on the
wall.

Closing

Summary 5’ All together, will make a summary of all what we learned during the lesson, in
order to summarize and clarify any doubt about the content.
