Observation:
Sophia is a 4 year old girl in the Dinosaur room playing in the dress up area at 4:15 on 2!11"
She sits on the #loor against the radiator $ith her legs propped up" %er elbo$s are rested on her thighs
and in her hands she is holding a pink &al&ulator" She uses her thumbs to randomly press the buttons"
She looks at me and says' ()*m $aiting #or my dad to &ome" %e*s late"+
) look at her and say' ()*m sure he $ill be here soon" ,hat are you doing $ith that &al&ulator-+
She is silent and looks ba&k do$n at her &al&ulator" She puts the pink &al&ulator do$n $ith her le#t
hand and pi&ks up the blue one $ith her right" She &ontinues her rapid pressing o# the buttons" All o# a
sudden' she sma&ks the pink &al&ulator $ith her right hand" She then pi&ks both up and stands up" She
$alks over to a basket on the $all shel# and puts the &al&ulators in the basket" Sophia then turns around
and &omes to sit ba&k do$n ne.t to me" She has /ust her right leg propped up and both hands resting on
her knee" She doesn*t say anything" She gets up and $alks over to the baskets and pulls out an arm
pressure do&tor tool" She puts it on her right $rist and pumps $ith her le#t hand" She then puts it ba&k
and &hooses a toy needle" She pretends $ith it on her right arm"

stethos&ope" She puts it around her ne&k like a do&tor" (0his is ho$ Dr" %o$ard $ears hers"+ She then
puts it a$ay" She gets out a pair o# bino&ulars and $alks over to the $indo$ and presses the bino&ulars
up against the glass and looks through them" She puts them a$ay and pi&ks out a toy &amera" She
stands still and studies it' turning over in her hand" (0his opens'+ she says as she opens the battery part"
She holds the &amera up and takes a pretend pi&ture o# me" () heard the doors open'+ she says" She
holds the &amera up to the $indo$ and s1uints through the lens" She puts the &amera a$ay and
$anders around the room" She pi&ks up random toys and puts them do$n" She &omes ba&k and gets the
bino&ulars out again" She looks through them out the $indo$ again" She turns to look at the door and
smiles" She thro$s the bino&ulars do$n $ith her le#t hand and runs to the door" She /umps into her
mother*s arms and hugs her" (,here*s ,es-+ she asks"

$alks to the &oat hangers and pi&ks out her &oat" She s$ings it over her ba&k and /ust puts the hood on
her head" A#ter standing and staring at her mom #or a$hile' she then begins to sti&k her arms through
the arm holes" She grabs the 3ipper and struggles to hook the 3ipper" She grunts and stomps her #eet"
(Do you need help s$eetie-+ her mother asks" %er mom grabs Sophia*s hand and they $alk out
o# the room"
Objective Analysis:
) think Sophia has a brother named ,estley $hom she is &lose $ith" She made mention o# him a &ouple
o# times /ust $ithin 15 minutes" She seems as though she doesn*t mind ne$ people' but pre#ers to play
by hersel#" She didn*t intera&t $ith any o# the other 14 &hildren during my observation" ) think she has a
good memory be&ause she remembers the name o# her do&tor' or a do&tor she met at some point5
$hoever Dr" %o$ard is" She $as very observational $ith the items around her and the s&enery outside"
