STORYTELLING SESSION

Never make students retell the story in the middle of it.

The idea of storytelling is to teach without students knowing that youre teaching
.
Students can be integrated into the story by singing a chant, making noises, mak
ing predictions.
The story should be appropriate for the childrens state of cognitive and affectiv
e development; it shouldnt be graded according to language.
The most salient characters should have different voices.
If students are unfamiliar with storytelling, begin with short sessions and read
slowly and clearly.
GAMES
A game activity should always contain a necessary language component and a twist
.
Principle of linguistic payoff: is the game worthy in terms of language?
Principe of cost-effectiveness: choose exercises that mover quickly and require
minimum preparation
Principle of restricted repertoire: a good game produces a winner after a fixed
period of time (it should go on forever) and the number of options, answers, etc
should be restricted.
Principle of fair play: play hard, play fair, nobody hurt. Avoid individual vs ind
ividual competition
Principle of participation: choose an activity in which every student has a fair
chance to participate and avoid elimination games or apply a system of re-entry
.
Principle of enthusiasm: dont repeat successful activities and stop the activity
before students get bored so that they keep on wanting more.
