President Bill Clinton: President Bill Clinton was a president of the United States in 1996 when he

signed the Defense of Marriage Act banning people of the same sex to marry one another. He is
important to this topic because he was kind of the one who started this conflict. If he never signed the
Defense of Marriage Act on September 21, 1996 then where would we be today and how would our
marriage laws be today?!
Pope Francis: Pope Francis is the Pope for the Catholic religion. Hes involved in this because he
does oppose gay marriage, but he has made statements where he says that he doesnt judge or dislike
gay people who follow the religion. He also has brought up the topic more and made it more popular in
the news in the recent years.
LGBT: LGBT stands for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender. They are a group that defends and protests
for the rights that they dont have but deserve. They are involved in this conflict because if they didnt
exist who knows if we would have and same-sex marriage states/countries in the world. They are the
main reason why some couples get to marry legally.
President Obama: President Obama is the President of the United States. He is a major part of this
conflict because for starters he believes in same-sex marriage and also he is fighting for same-sex
marriage. His daughters have friends whose parents are the same sex, and his wife has gone out of her
way to invite gay people to the White House and host them.
Ben Haggerty (Macklemore): I feel that the Seattle rapper, Macklemore, is a big part of this
conflict because he is the first rapper in history to approach the subject and show support for gay
people. He grew up with gay uncles and with bullying all around him and he felt that it was his duty to
write a song (Same Love) supporting his uncles. He influenced a lot of people showing that its alright to
be gay and he also helped make it possible for some states to let gay people marry legally. Even though
hes not in history for this topic I feel that hes making history for this topic and maybe others will follow
in his foot path.
