Community Mapping

In addition to resources provided by the school, the reality is that in order to better serve
the school population often outside resources need to be utilized as well. The following are some
additional resources around the Highline area that provide services such as mental health
counseling, educational funding, food bank option, and support for those with disabilities:

Description
Sea Mar Community Center is a non-profit health center providing comprehensive health, human
and housing resources and services to the community with detail to the multicultural and
multilingual lifestyles of their clients. The specific services provided include medical, pharmacy,
dental, behavioral health, preventative health, housing services, nursing care, child development
education and community and social service programs. For those with limited income Sea Mar
functions on a sliding-fee scale that is determined by family size and annual income.

Referral Process
For behavioral health directed towards students, meeting needs to be set up with a therapist for
an intake either at school or at the facility.

Description:
Consejo provides services specific to the Latino communities with a focus on children and
families. Their mission is to provide a continuum of behavioral health, substance abuse and
domestic violence services to individuals and families across Washington to improve the quality
of their lives and empower clients to participate in their communities at their highest level of
functioning. Specific services provided include behavioral health, domestic violence, sexual
assault, adult substance abuse and chemical dependency, and housing services. Specific towards
youth services include behavioral health, youth outpatient substance abuse treatment, gang
prevention programs, and an annual Latino youth leadership conference.

Referral Process:
Ruth Nunoz, does not have a direct line can only be contacted by calling the number provided
above and then Ruth Nunoz takes care of the referral process.

Description:
Sound Mental Health delivers health and human services to meet needs of clients. They over
strength and resilience focused services, partner with clients to reach goals, and encourage
healthy life choices. Sound Mental Health provides a number of services useful to schools and
families more specifically their youth and childrens services and family oriented services. They
also offer support service for adults and the elderly. Their Youth and Childrens services aim to
help those with mental health and chemical challenges, school based services and counseling
programs. Their family oriented services focus on domestic violence and family counseling.

Referral Process:
Medicaid Coverage & children that are 18 with private service will be referred to Admissions
line. Insurance information needs to be ran. There are different offices to refer them to. Once
confirmed by admissions they would set up appointment then be able to see clinician for
counseling.

Description:
The Highline Schools Foundation provides funding for teachers to support teachers for
innovative and unique programs in the classroom that the school budget is unable to provide.
Every year they also raise funding to help students participate in sports. They have also funded
college campus visits, summer art programs, and many other programs that help schools in need
of additional funding.

Description:
A nonprofit organization that gathers and distributes food to those in need. The quantity of food
provided to depends on the size of the household. Food provided may depend on availability but
cover the main food groups:
(Bread: pasta, macaroni and cheese, crackers, rice, cereal, flour/mixes, bread
Fruit: canned fruit, 100% fruit juice
Vegetables: canned veggies, canned soup, tomato products
Dairy: powdered milk
Protein/Eggs: meat, eggs, peanut butter, beans
Fats, Oils: oil/butter/margarine
Fresh Produce: as available through donations
Referral Process:
In order to be eligible, photo identification is needed along with a current bill with a persons
name and address on it. Again, food provided depends on number of members with household
so if children are being included a form of school records is required. At first time of use of
services users will be asked to complete a registration form.

Description:
The Alliance of People with Disabilities is a nonprofit organization founded by people with
disabilities. The organization aims to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental
disabilities, family members, care givers, community partners, friends, and professionals.
Services provided include: information and referral, independent living skills training, peer
groups, disabilities law project, access reviews, individual and systems advocacy and community
education.

Referral Process:
No referral necessary, individual just needs to identify as a person with a disability require no
proof of disability.
