INTRODUCTION
Identify the different joints used in Woodwork
Q/ What type of joints are commonly used in woodwork? A/ J oints such as butt, rebate, mortise and tenon dowel and housing joints.
Q/ What is the difference between a butt joint and a rebate joint? A/ The rebate joint has more surface area to apply glue and make the joint stronger. Butt joint has less surface area to apply glue and the only strength comes from the nails used
Q/ Why do we have to take precaution while using sharp tools such as tenon saws and chisels? A/ because they have really sharp blades that could pierce the skin and would cause an incident.
08:10
- T Greets Yr. 7 Class, and school prayer said out loud.
- T asks Ss what type of joints are used in woodworking projects. Ss would be allowed to use their IPads to search for answers, and T will Brainstorm the answers on the whiteboard.
- Ss will be asked to observe the difference between a butt joint and a rebate joint. T will provide some hints for students to answer correctly.
- T will ask Ss to provide reasons as to why there are precautions when using sharp tools. T will praise students for their answers
- IPads for research.
- Whiteboard for brainstorming
- Student Woodwork exercise booklets
DEVELOPMENT
Demonstrating the understanding of rebate joints and why they are used
Q/ Are you able to answer the questions given on the sheet?
Q/ What are the advantages and disadvantages of a rebate joint?
08:20
- T hands out worksheet to Ss. T asks Ss to answer the questions provided on the sheet using their prior knowledge, woodwork booklets or IPads.
- T asks Ss to share some examples of advantages and disadvantages of a rebate joint
- Ss Share the information
- Worksheet on Rebate J oints.
