Character Analysis:

Lost in Yonkers

Bella: As a thirty-five
year old woman,
Bella is the aunt of
Jay and Arty. She is
known to be a little off
center, often seeming
absentminded, but
she is also loving and
protective of her
nephews.

Jay: At the age of 15

and a half Jay is the
elder brother to Arty.
He is an independent,
self serving jokester,
who sometimes gets
carried away with the
situations going on
around him.

Arty: At the age of 13

and a half Arty is the
younger brother to
Jay. More of an
observer then the rest
of his family he often
goes with the flow of
things, but also can
be a little child-ish.

Grandma Kurnitz: A
very old and stern
woman, she is the
grandmother of Arty
and Jay. Owing to her
apparently rough
childhood she has
always been very
intolerant of what in
others she calls
"weaknesses." She is
blunt, sometimes
even in a funny way,
and always knows
what is going on with
the people around
her.

Eddie: As a middle-
aged man, Eddie, is
the father of Arty and
Jay. After the death
of his wife he is
forced to send his two
sons to live with their
grandmother, while
he repays his large
financial debts.

Louie: As the uncle of

Arty and Jay, and the
brother of Eddie and
Bella, Louie is a very
strange character.
Considered to be the
"gangster" of the
family, many believe
him to be involved
with the mafia.

Gert: As sister to
Grandma Kurnitz, she
is a very interesting
addition to the family.
One interesting
personality trait she
has is that when she
breathes she has a
tendency to suck in
while still speaking.
