Jaicee, Calli, and Mariesa organizing the childrens books.
Overview
Every day, hundreds of people walk in and out of libraries with a new book in hand. But
how often are those books cleaned? Studies show that popular books such as Fifty Shades of
Gray, had traces of HIV and cocaine on the covers. Adults might be responsible enough not to
put library books in their mouths but young children such as toddlers and infants dont know
better.
Our solution is to go to public libraries such as the Sandy Library, and help clean and
organize childrens books. By wiping down these books and shelves, it helps minimize bacteria
and dust. By organizing them, it makes it much easier to find them.
We highly think parents should consider wiping down children's books before handing
them to their children. We also highly suggest readers wash their hands after reading public
library books. These are just a couple recommendations that are meant as a precaution from
spreading bacteria transferred from these books. Though the books themselves may not be
dangerous but whats covering them may be.

Everyone working in their assigned
partnership performing their assigned task
when organizing donation items.

Project Description
Our groups purpose is to help clean and organize the Sandy Librarys childrens books.
We help wipe down the front cover, the back cover, and the side binding on the childrens
books. We also help wipe down the shelving that these books are placed on, and re-organize
them so they are much easier to find.
We first gathered at the library and helped organize the donation items, making sure
there are the matching CDs to the CD case, and that the tapes have labels. We then moved to
the childrens book area and started pulling them from the shelves to wipe them down and re-
organize them. After we did this, the group split into two smaller groups. One group went
around wiping down the shelves and the other helped re-organize the childrens magazines on
the wall.
At each miniature meeting, we discussed what needed to be down and who is
appointed to help accomplish that specific goal. For example, while organizing the donation
items, some people were appointed to check CDs, some were appointed to check tapes, and
some were appointed to restack the novels on the cart.
We ended up with a cleaned, organized childrens section and also helped organized the
donation items. All the childrens books had been wiped down and re-organized. All the
donation items had been organized into groups and were all labeled.
