Brief description (3-5 bullets) of activity during participation:
- For new topics, the teacher introduces the material, performs a few examples with student input, and then sets the students on their own. - The students have a choice of whether to get into groups to work together, or to work on their own. - Talking occurs in the groups, but unless it gets out of hand and students stray from the task at hand, it is permitted. - The teacher goes around to help, as needed. - If a certain problem is tough, the teacher will have a student who has solved it to put it on the board.

Reflection on Participation Experience:
I enjoy the way the teacher handles in class work. I have been in some classrooms in high school where the teacher has every student work by themselves and no talking is allowed. I can understand the no talking to an extent, but I never understood the lack of group work. I personally prefer to work alone, but that doesnt mean I dont see the benefit of working in groups. I imagine some of the appeal is to be with friends. Regardless, this teacher gives both options and most tend to work in groups. From what I observed during my time in ther classroom, there wasnt evet really a student who took over the group. One student may chime in with an answer, another student would disagree, another would explain the steps, etc. For the most part, the group worked as a team. The class I observed during this were seniors, so they might be more mature than Freshmen doing this same activity.
