Number Event Media Prescription / Process 1 Gain learner attention.
Caleb will share his genealogy with students and tell a cool story. We will ask students to identify a leader in their life that they can specifically list. 2 Inform students of lesson objective (s).
-Understand who Charlemagne was and family background. -How he unified Europe and his people. 3 Stimulate pre-requisite recall.
-Pair share things we already know about Charlemagne/ 4 Present the stimulus material.
-Students will watch a video of Charlemagne. Students will identify why Charlemagne is considered the Father of Europe, and leadership qualities he had. Students will read text and circle things that illustrate Charlemagne as a leader or attributes that show he was a leader. 5 Provide learner guidance.
Students will do the fishbowl activity. They will discuss if Charlemagne was really a good leader or not compared to the leaders they know in their life. They will discuss why or why not. If needed we will identify people today and ask if they are a good leader. Students will decide if they think Charlemagne was a good leader or not. 6 Elicit performance.
Students performance will be analyzed on a few points. 1. Participation. This will be taken care of by everyone being able to go into the fish bowl at some point. Those who are watching the fishbowl are taking notes or asking questions in anticipation to going into the fish bowl. 2. Their note taking of Charlemagne. 7 Provide feedback.
Students will receive feedback as they enter into a conversation. They will learn that everyone needs a turn and every idea taken into consideration throughout conversation. 8 Assess performance.
Students will build up a list of reasons dealing with Charlemagnes leadership (not if he is a good person or not) just on leadership qualities. 9 Enhance retention.
Students will do a Venn diagram of Charlemagne and the person they picked and compare and contrast leadership techniques of both Charlemagne and the person they see as a leader.
