Area Directors Message

I will be completing Coaching Visits next
week where we will be discuss the items
you submitted to receive coaching on.
February staff development agendas:
Submit your agenda to me electronically by
Feb. 14th.

Benchmarks: Be sure all benchmarks are scanned prior
to Feb. 18th. The CST members will begin pulling data
on Feb. 18th. Our goal is to get this data back to the
campuses in a timely manner.
5th grade string students from Hillside Academy of
Excellence performed in the GISD Solo/Ensemble
Festival on Saturday, January 25th at North Garland
High School. Thirty students participated with
Hillside students receiving 29 medals and 1 ribbon.

I recently read an article titled, What Students Re-
member Most About Teachers. I found many points
in the article very interesting. Here are a few key
things I would like to express to you:
You are the difference in their lives.
Because we want our students to think were the
very best at what we do and we believe that this
status of excellence is achieved merely by doing.
But we forget and often, excellence is more readily
attained by being.
Being available.
Being kind.
Being compassionate.
Being transparent.
Being real.
Being thoughtful.
Being ourselves.
Its the relationships we build with them.
Its the time we invest.
Its all the little ways we stop and show concern.
Its the love we share with them: of learning, of
life, and most importantly, of people.

I challenge you to reflect on how you can apply these
things to those you lead. Remember you have a great
impact on teachers, students, and parents. YOU de-
termine what they remember about you.
