has been commissioned to design for the City of Boise. Similar in many ways, the two libraries share comparable building programs and layouts. The design of Library! at Bown Crossing is unique, however, in its response to a challenging site context. Located on a large site divided in half by a school access road trafcked heavily for student drop-off/pick-up, the proposed new library responds to both its own vehicular circulation and parking requirements and to access needs of the school next door. A large, landscaped roundabout organizes and calms trafc, anchors the building to the site, and acts as an organizational focus of the oor plan. Furthermore, the building is visible from multiple angles, requiring sophisticated treatment of all four elevations. Without a traditional front and back to the building, this library is thoughtfully articulated on all sides. Library! @ Bown Crossing Boise, Idaho The design for Library! at Bown Crossing will provide a sense of place for the neighborhood of east Boise, responding elegantly to mountain views to the north, complex programmatic zoning requirements, a desire to utilize local and historically signicant materials, and the ecology of the adjacent Boise River. The Citys sustainable design goal for the project is LEED Gold NC.
