Do Now (3-5 minutes)
Silent, short, pen to paper, complete w/out teacher direction, preview or review

T: By looking at the front cover, what is the setting?
S: Outside, woods, country, day


Opening (3-5 minutes)
The Hook, Preview Objective, Connection to Prior Knowledge.

We are going to read The Little Red Hen. I want you all to really pay attention to the illustrations and text to identify the setting and the characters.

On the first page, the author tells us about some of the characters and the setting. We learn that the
setting is a cottage and that some of the characters of our story are the Little Red Hen, a goose, a dog,

I wonder what we will find out about our characters in the story?

T: What word does the author use to describe the goose? Raised Hand
S: Gossip. (put it in the chart)

T: What word does the author use to describe the dog?

T: Next we are going to learn about the Little Red Hen. The author does not use one word to describe
her so you must think of a describing word yourself.
