In mathematics, a set is a
collection of distinct objects,
considered as an object in its
own right.
The objects that make up a set (also
known as the elements or members of
a set) can be anything: numbers,
people, letters of the alphabet, other
sets, etc.
A Venn diagram or set diagram
is a diagram that shows all
possible logical relations
between a finite collection of
sets.
More info. Venn diagrams were conceived around
1880 by John Venn.

If every member of set A is also
a member of set B, then A is
said to be a subset of B, written
A B (also pronounced A is
contained in B).
A is a subset of B
Two sets can be "added"
together. The union of A and B,
denoted by A B, is the set of
all things that are members of
either A or B.
The union of A and B, denoted A B
A new set can also be constructed
by determining which members
two sets have "in common". The
intersection of A and B, denoted
by A B, is the set of all things
that are members of both A and B.
The intersection of A and B, denoted A B.
In set theory, a complement of a
set A refers to things not in (that
is, things outside of) A.
the absolute complement of A
is the set of all elements in U
but not in A.
The complements of A, denoted A
In set theory, a universal set is a
set which contains all objects,
including itself
