Distributive Property
multiplying a sum by a number is the same as multiplying
each addend by the number and adding the 2 products
together.
Example: 6 x 57= !6 x 50" + !6 x 7"

Commutative Property
Changing the order of addends or factors does not change
the sum or product.
Example: 3 + 5 = 5 + 3 2 x 6 = 6 x 2

Associative Property
Changing the grouping of addends or factors does not
change the sum or product.
Example: !4 + 2" + 10 = 4 + !2 + 10"

Simplify
the rst step to simplifying 4 !7x # 3" + 2x, is to group the
like terms, which are 7x and 2x. You add the two like
terms together and you get an answer of 9x.
Then group the other like terms which are 3 and. add
them and you get 7. so your answer is going to be 7x + 7.

Solving equations
solve 7x # 10 # 9x = #13
group like terms: 7x # 9x = 10 # 13.
simplify: #2x = #3
divide both sides by #2: #2x / ! #2" = #3 / !#2"
solve: x= 1.5

Solve
solve 5x/6 + x/3 = 11/6 + 1/2
group like terms: 5x/6 + x/3 = 11/6 + 1/2
turn into like denominator: 5x/6 + 2x/6 = 11/6 + 3/6
simplify: 7x/6= 14x/6
solve: x=2

Solve
Solve: 2 <= x/#5
Multiply by #5: 2 x #5<= x/#5 x #5
simplify: #10<= x
solve #10<=x

Solve
solve #4x + 4 >= #8
group like terms: #4x >= #8 #4
Simplify: #4x >= #12
divide by #4 on both sides: x >= 3

Open vs Closed Circle
An open circle is where the 2 numbers do not equal one
another
A closed circle is where the numbers are greater than or
equal to or less than or equal to.
