"The Brown Lady" ghost the most famous. The ghost is thought to be that of Lady
Dorothy Townshend. The Raynham Hall mansion was the home of the Townshend
family for over 300 years. Dorothy was the sister of Sir Robert al!ole.
"harles sus!e#ted Dorothy of infidelity. $nd although a##ording to legal re#ords she
died and was buried in %&'() it was sus!e#ted that the funeral was a sham and that
"harles had lo#*ed his wife away in a remote #orner of the house until her death
many years later.
Dorothy+s ghost is said to haunt the oa* stair#ase and other areas of Raynham Hall.

woman in a brown dress standing beside his bed) noting that her fa#e was !ale and
hair disheveled.
