thefuture,inordertopersuadethemcontinuefightinguntiljusticeprevailsandtheycanbefreeatlast
(p.37)
AsKing,introduceshisacknowledgementsofthecrisisoftheNegropeoplebyensuringa
brightfutureofAmerica,heprovesthattheirstrugglesshouldnotbringthemtoastoptowardtheir
sacredgoaloftotalequality,bygettingthemtojoinhandswhileheexpresseshisperspectiveofthe
future.Therevelatinganaphoraboastshisdreamfromprojectingnotonlyadream,butKingsdeep
emotionandattachmenttoit,tofacilitateinthemakingoftheaudiencesownbondtotheirowndreams.
Kingsrepetitionofhismanydreamsandaspirationsshowhisaudiencethathehassomethingdearto
him,somethingnontangible,thathewillfightfor.Thispersuadestheaudiencetoformulatetheirown
dreamsofwhichtheywouldstandandfightfor.Kingsstrategyistouplifttheveteransofconstant
struggle,tothinkmorepositiveandseethegoodinhavingsomethingtreasurabletothem.Because
dreamsarenotmaterialistic,noonecantakethemawayunlessoneallowsit,whichmakesthis
connotationofdreamsassomethingmorepassionatethananywish,morevaluableandinfactwortha

battletothedeath.KingusesI,afirstpersonpronoun,tonotsimplyestablishtotheaudiencethathe
ownshisdreambuttoshowtheaudiencewhattheyneedratherthanwant.Heshowsthem,bytargeting
parents,thattheirchildrenneedtobejudgedbytheircharacterratherthanbythecoloroftheirskin
(p.21)becausehewantsthemtoseehowthoseantagonistsarediminishingtheequalityoftheirposterity
downtonothingbutlooks.WhichKingalludesthatallmenarecreatedequal(p.18)tofurthershare
thatideologyastowhattheyallneedfromAmericaandwhattheyallhavejoinedhandsfor,tostand
andfightforthatbrightandprosperousfutureofit.BecauseofKingsreassuringhastehefocuseson
therevisionsofAmericaandthestrengthofallratherthanone.Inparagraph6,Kingsbuildsemotions
andrushintohisaudiencetoalarmthemthatnowisthetime(p.6)andiftheyletthistimewitherand
nullify,thenwhoknowshowlongitwilltakefortheirpreciousdreamsoffreedomandequalitytocome
tofruition.Andhewantshisaudiencetoseehowquicklytheirdreamcandisintegrateiftheydontstand
theirgroundandfightforitslife.KingexemplifiestheworkneededtofixAmericatomovetowardthe
sunlitpathofracialjusticebysimplyassuringthepeoplethatAmericaisnotinanunhealthystateand
needsthehelpofalltogetbacktoitshealth.Throughthisheprojectstheimportanceofoneandnotall
bymanifestingtotheCivilRightsActiviststhatthisnationisournation(p.6).Thispersuadesthepeople
torisetogetherandclaimtogetherthejusticesofAmericaandthepromisesofdemocracy(p.6).This
collectivepronounusage,whichissaidonlyoneinthisparagraph,showstherarityofbrotherhoodinthe
desolatevalley(p.6)ofAmerica.Kingexpressesthroughthisonetimeusagethatabrotherhood
(p.6)bondisneededtoaffectivelyreviseAmericaandhelpitstandupandgrowonfromtheinjustices
ofracialdiscrimination,buttotheworthyfreedomboundbyeveryone.AsKingproceedstobringthe
peopletogetherthroughhismotivatingspeech,byhisrighteousparallelsentences,hewithdrawals
balancedfeelingsofreliefandplacement,eventhoughtheyhaventbeguntofightfortheprecedentof
justiceofthenation.Letfreedomring(p.3036)isananadiplosivecontinuumofthelastlyricofthe
songincludedinparagraph28ofthespeech.Kingimplementsthissongtoshiftfromsongandrealityto
thebalancebetweenthem.Songs,rathertheconnotationofthem,reallyshowlightondarksituationsto
relieveaudiencesofanystress,throughthebeautifultonesandsymphoniclikemusicalongsidethem.
Andbythis,Kingshowsthebeautifulrealityoftheworldtostepasidefromitsfaultsandpointoutits
uniquetraits.Hebalancesthesedescriptionsofdifferentplacestoemphasizethatnomatterwherethe
peopleoftheaudiencearefromthosestatesworktogetherlikeapuzzle,becausethesestatesdidnot
alwaysworksowelltogetherandittookbattlesandwarstogetittothepointatwhichitstands.And
tofurtherexplainthatthatispreciselywhatthepeoplesroleandgoalsare,toworktogetherlikea
puzzlebalancedbyideologyoflife,liberty,happiness,andequalityforallpeopleuniquelyplaced
throughoutthisgloriousnation.
