To Whom It May Concern:
Todd Singer was a student teacher in my seventh grade science class for about eight weeks in the spring
of 2014. During his time in my class, Mr. Singer had the opportunity to teach three periods of seventh
grade science, one period of advanced science, and one period of advanced science lab. It was within
this setting that Todd demonstrated all the skills and character traits necessary to be a great teacher and
solid member of a teaching community. The following describes the experiences that Todd had in my
classroom that best speak to his overall strengths.
When he began his student teaching, it was immediately evident that Todd had a love for the profession
and a sincere interest in and concern for the students. He was willing to come up with creative lessons
that proved to be interesting and educationally effective. He wrote extremely well thought-out plans and
was always willing to adjust any parts of his lessons he thought could be improved. Mr. Singer also
created most of his own teaching materials including worksheets, notes, and tests. This insured that his
teaching materials were always well aligned with the standards as well as very visually appealing.

Todds classroom management style seemed closer to that of a veteran teacher than to the student
teacher he was. His maturity in dealing with the students was evident and, as a result, commanded real
respect from the students. He was able to build meaningful relationships with students, and in turn use
those relationships to motivate students to work hard and behave.

On a practical level, all the papers, quizzes and tests Todd assigned to the students were immediately
graded and returned to the students. He maintained a level of efficiency that was fueled by his obvious
work ethic and his professional concern for his students progress. Mr. Singer was also a receptive
learner. He took all criticism as an opportunity to improve as an educator and willingly sought out and
followed advice whenever it was appropriate.

I am confident that Mr. Singer will be an asset in any school environment. While my knowledge of
Todds abilities apply to a setting as an educator of children, I believe that he has the necessary character
and skill set to be successful in most environments.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,

Timothy D. Emerson
