a the candidate for certification: demonstrates and implements classroom leadership
What: Observations
Who: By supervisor/cooperating teacher of myself
When: Throughout the 2013-2014 practicum year
Significant details: In the observations completed about me, it was mentioned many times that I had effective classroom leadership. I established shared class values and students had to take responsibility for their own behavior. My presence in the room served as monitoring. Students never required for me to just stand over them all the time. We always had very smooth transitions within our classroom and from our classroom to other places.
Analysis: Overall, I think I demonstrate and implement classroom leadership. The following are quotes out of observation forms that prove these things.
This is just a sum up of my artifacts:
The routine of leaving morning meeting by showing name tags has improved since my first week. Children are working to be fully normalized.
Grace did a full group lesson. She had the attention of the whole group. Reading a book has the same importance as giving a lesson. Tries not to be interrupted. Children were engaged and quiet throughout the whole session.
Grace has made progress in this area. She is now very aware of where she positions herself to be able to see the majority of the classroom.
Grace and Ms. Kirby work well as a team to create a safe and secure environment for the children. The students are relaxed in the environment and freely ask questions or request help when they need it. The children have a feel of independence as many materials are available without adult assistance.
Grace established expectations clearly communicated what she wanted and was quick to adjust when needed. The class was clearly engaged in the activity and demonstrated concentration.
The children are demonstrating an ownership of the environment. They actively take out a work complete it and put it back in the proper place. Materials are left where the child can be independent in working without adult assistance.
Grace has set up an environment where the other students know not to disturb her when she is showing lessons. The students were working independent on their own work.
