In this unit we talked about how genetics can change your
appearance and why reproduction is essential for life continuation. Also how cells reproduce by splitting and creating an exact replica of each other and that genes control your appearance, and there is tons of different combinations of DNA, which makes you, and how sometimes there are some mutations, and diseases that can affect a cell.
There are different types of cells, each one with their own purpose. Every living thing has tons of cells unless is a type of bacteria, which are one celled organisms. The different types of cells are: plant cells which is different from animal cells because they have chloroplast, which makes them green. There are also cells for each part of your body: skin cells, blood cells, brain cells etc. Cells have different parts like the nucleolus, cell membrane etc. They reproduce by mitosis which means they divide into identical replicas of the cell, they also reproduce by meiosis. Inside the cell nucleolus there is DNA, which are inside the chromosomes
Genes and your environment determine how you act and look like. Chromosomes are inside the cell nucleolus; there are 46 in total, 23 from your mom and 23 from your dad. There are different types of genes, dominant and recessive genes like green eyes are recessive genes and brown eyes are dominant. Male and female have different chemicals. Males have testosterone and females have estrogen. Y (testosterone) is male and X (estrogen) is female so that XX= female and XY= male But there can be some mistakes in the process. This could Happen, XYY or something else
There are some mutations that happen like Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria, which is a genetic mutation, which accelerates the aging on children. Mostly the kids that have progeria die in the age of 13 but some can go to there 20s. This mutation happens to one in eight million births. This diesis occurs when a mutation in in the LMNA gene. This gene provides support to the nucleolus of the cell. This mutation can affect your skin and your appearance. This mutation is interesting to gerontologist because it has a good relation with aging.
In conclusion I told yow how there are different types of cell each one with there own propose and how nature an nurture determines almost all your characteristics either your hair is brown or black etc. Also that in the process of reproduction some mutations can happen in your body that can change you in different ways either emotionally or your aspect.
