It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to recommend Alicia Hendrickson for a
mathematics teaching position. I have known Alicia since January 2014. I represented The
College of New Jersey as her college supervisor during her student teaching experience at
Northern Burlington County Middle School in Columbus, NJ. I observed her teaching, planning
and interacting with students and her cooperating teacher.
As a student teacher, Alicia was exceptional. She brought a strong understanding of
mathematics concepts and procedures and diligently prepared lessons to communicate
mathematics to meet the different learning styles of her students. She worked actively to include
technology, games, cooperative learning and ongoing assessment throughout her lessons.
I observed Alicia in the classroom and as she interacted with her students, with her
cooperating teacher and with other teachers in the school. She was always prepared, polite and
professional. Alicia developed a strong, positive relationship with her cooperating teacher and
they worked together to plan and prepare her lessons. In fact, her cooperating teacher often
remarked that she felt she was learning new ideas and strategies from Alicia! She responded
positively to constructive suggestions and incorporated them into subsequent lessons. She had a
good rapport with her students and clearly enjoyed teaching them.
Alicia is enthusiastic about the teaching profession and the opportunities to work with
students in the classroom environment. She showed self-confidence and the ability to organize
her time to meet the demands of teaching. She was extremely well-organized and prepared. Her
room was always ready with written objectives, Do-Now, equipment and supplies to assure a
smooth flow to every lesson. Students responded positively to her instruction. She offered praise
to students when appropriate and encouraged questions. She made herself available for extra help
after school and during her free periods. She demonstrated a strong work ethic.
I recommend Alicia, without reservation, for any position in education.
