Scholars Challenge #6

This is my sixth scholars challenge. I chose choice B. I chose this choice
because we had just finished the barbie bungee and my group didn't win, so I wanted
to find out what we did wrong, and we can do next time . This choice it talking about
how they give me a table and I need to find an equation so I will know how much
rubber bands I need for any bungee drop height. I looked at my table and how it was
organized. In the first column it says the number of drop and its scale is going up by
one. The second column is saying the number of rubber bands used, and it seems like
they used the same number of rubber bands several times. Then the third column says
the fall distance in inches. The one thing that I noticed was that my group was checking
the amount of the distance fall we did the drop 2 times for whatever number of rubber
bands, and we got the same amount every time. But in this table the amount is different
which tells me that my group was not precise when taking the data.

After I looked at the table, I then went to look at the first question. The first
question said that I needed to write an equation for any bungee drop height. I used my
the graphing calculator in class to get the equation . I first went on the graphing
calculator I pressed STAT and then I went to edit and I plugged in the numbers of the
last 2 columns in the calculator. And then after I plugged them in the table I pressed the
button STAT and then I went to edit and then I went to the LINE.. which I think is
number 4. After I pressed that I then got the A which was 7.48 , then I got B which was
11.2 .What I had to do was round them and I got 7.5x+11.2. The slope in the situation is
7.5 and what that means in this problem is that every time the distance goes up by 7.5
inches the rubber bands go up 1.

Then the next question was that I needed to answer was that I needed to make
the best prediction for how long the bungee cord should be for the drop height for 16
feet, 4 inches. Basically what I needed to do was that plug it in the equation for Y and
solve for X. Before I do that I needed to convert 16 feet into inches because in the table
the fall distance was in inches. I converted 16 feet and I got 192 inches. I then had to
add that 4 inches into that which I got to 196 inches. Then I needed to plug in 196 for Y
because in this case the Y in the table was the fall distance and I needed to find the
number of rubber bands needed for 196 inches. So I plugged in 196 for Y and I then
divided 7.5 by 196 and I got 261. The answer that I got was 26.1. I then had to subtract
that by 11.2 and I got 14.9 which I rounded to 15. So the prediction that I got was that
for 16 feet and 4 inches/ 196 inches I need 15 rubber bands.

The next question asked me make a best prediction of 500 feet. I again before
doing anything needed to convert 500 feet to inches and I got 45,011 inches which is
my Y. I plugged 45,011 into Y and then I divided 7.5 by both sides and I got 6,001. I
then subtracted both sides by 11.2 and I got 5,900 rubber bands. Which is my best
prediction. The last question asked me that how confident should my barbie feel. And I
say that barbie should feel pretty confident. Because I feel like that I got the right
answers because I know I have done everything right. Also because this seems like a
better predictions than the predictions compared to mine and my groups barbie bungee.

After doing these calculations what and looking at the tables I feel what I and the
group did wrong was that we didnt make our right predictions. We plugged in the
numbers in the equation but we didn't go by that prediction we rounded it into a another
number. So next time we should trust on our predictions .
