For Materials in Inventory
Sections I, IV, and VIII, Divisions 1 and 2
Inquiry: May material in inventory which meets the
requirements of a Section II material specication that
was superseded and meets the requirements of the
current specication except for the more restrictive
chemical compositional requirements of the current
Section II specication, be used in Code construction?
Reply: It is the opinion of the Committee that material
in inventory which meets the requirements of a Section
II material specication that was superseded, and meets
the requirements of the current specication except for

the more restrictive chemical composition requirements
of the current Section II specication, may be used in
Code construction provided the following requirements
are met.
(a) There is no prohibition on the use of the speci-
cation that was superseded in the rules of the Code,
providing that specication has been accepted by, and
stress values published in the specic Code Section
for which it is to be used.
(b) The material shall have been melted when the
chemical requirements of an ASME approved material
specication that has been superseded were in effect.
(c) This Case number shall be included with the
required specication marking of the material and in-
cluded with the Manufacturers Data Report.
