Lesson Idea #1:
High School 9-12

Description: The student will learn about the reason why America entered into
World War II, which was the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The student will be using
Microsoft Word to create a newspaper article complete with pictures and
information about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The format can be any way they see
fit. They can research articles on the web to see the style that existed at the time in
order to get some ideas.

Objective: TSW learn what Pearl Harbor was, who bombed it and why, as well as
how it made America enter into World War II. This will be done by using research
abilities on the computer and making their own newspaper article reporting the
news that happened at Pearl Harbor. This will demonstrate their understanding of
American sentiment at the time.

Standard:
Students analyze the causes and course of World War II, along with the long-term
military, economic, and political effects of the World War II.


ISTE Standard:

Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop
innovative products and processes using technology.

Problem Statement:
Why would a country who had not shown aggression before suddenly launch an
attack, that was so deadly, the world stood in shock?

Assessment Strategy:
The assessment will be based on a three point scale of acceptable, passing and
advanced. The student will need to demonstrate knowledge through the information
they found and put in their article, show use of MW by having several paragraphs
written in different fonts on order to show difference in titles and key concepts as
well as pictures of the bombing on order to give visual aid.

Lesson Idea #2:
High School 9-12

Description: The student will learn about Napoleon Bonaparte and hoe he
influenced France.

Objective: TSW learn who Napoleon Bonaparte was and how he came into power as
well as his affect on France. This knowledge will be demonstrated by making a table
in Microsoft Word that lists the countries Napoleon conquered and how those
countries benefited him.

Standard:
W.3 Conduct a short research project summarizing the important causes and events
of the French Revolution including Enlightenment political thought, comparison to
the American Revolution, economic troubles, rising middle class, government
corruption and incompetence, Estates General, storming of the Bastille, execution of
Louis XVI, the Terror, and the rise and fall of Napolon. (C, E, H, P)

Problem Statement:
How could image make someone want to become powerful? If someone has a low
self esteem they can sometimes become one of the most powerful people in the
world due to wanting to prove other people wrong. This can also lead into an over
exertion of power.

Assessment Strategy:
The assessment will be based on a three point scale of acceptable, passing and
advanced. The student will need to demonstrate knowledge through the information
they found and put in their table. This will be assessed by the clarity of the name of
the country, the creativity of the picture chosen and the information listed for how
the country benefited Napoleon.
