Infant Lesson Plans

ORIGINATING IDEA
Foot Step Painting
MATERIALS
Large sheets of white paper
Non-Toxic Paint
Paper Plates
Paintbrushes
CURRICULUM CONTENT
This activity focuses on the Creative Arts: Exploring Art Material. KDI #37.
BEGINNING
Have children take their socks and shoes off, and put them in their cubbies. Then have
children sit around the paper and wait for the paint to be set down.
MIDDLE
Allow the children to put their hands and feet in the paint, and then have the children
paint the white sheets of paper.
EXTENSIONS
If children are not able to walk yet, they can participate by using their hands. If children
wish to use a paintbrush, allow children to use paintbrushes.
END
Wash hands and feet and put socks and shoes back on the children.
FOLLOW-UP IDEAS
Hang the painting up so the children and parents are able to view the artwork that the
children have painted.

MATERIALS

CURRICULUM CONTENT
This activity focuses on childrens Cognitive Development: Locating Objects. KDI #28.
BEGINNING
Teacher hides or misplaces different classroom materials around the room before the
children come to school.
MIDDLE
Have children find all the misplaced materials, and put them back where they belong in
the classroom.
EXTENSIONS
If children are not entirely sure where materials ago, have them bring material to the area
that they believe the material goes.
If children know where the materials go, have them put materials away in the proper spot
in the classroom.
END
Have children make sure all the material is put away in the classroom, in the proper area.
FOLLOW-UP IDEAS
This can be used as a game during clean up time.

MATERIALS
Nursery Rhymes
Public domain songs
CURRICULUM CONTENT
This activity focuses on Communication, Language, & Literacy: Enjoying Language.
KDI # 21
BEGINNING
Have children name different nursery rhymes and different public domain songs.
MIDDLE
Start singing the songs and rhymes
EXTENSIONS
Children can help sing along if they know the words. If they dont know the words, they
can clap along or dance along.
END
Finish singing when children start to show interest in different activities.
FOLLOW-UP IDEAS
The rhymes and songs could be used during transition times, to help make the cleanup
process more fun.

Dance Party
MATERIALS
Different musical instruments from around the classroom.
CURRICULUM CONTENT
This activity focuses on the Physical Development and Health: Steady Beat. KDI #15.
BEGINNING
Have children pick out different musical instruments from the classroom, which they
would like to use.
MIDDLE
Have children start to make music and dance along to the different beats.
EXTENSIONS
Children can either make music or dance. Children can also try making music and
dancing along.
END
Have the children play one last song, and then clean up the materials.
FOLLOW-UP IDEAS
The children can use the dance party during parent drop off and parent pick up, to
welcome and say good-by to the children coming and leaving.

Baby Play Date
MATERIALS
Whatever different types of toys the children bring in from home
Whatever toys are around the classroom
CURRICULUM CONTENT
This activity focuses on the Social Emotional Development: Playing with others.
KDI #10.
BEGINNING
Allow the children to bring in some of the toys that they no longer use at home. Have
them brought in Monday through Friday Morning.
MIDDLE
Allow children to play with one another and the different toys that were brought into the
classroom.
EXTENSIONS
This activity can be done multiple times throughout the school year.
END
Have children help clean up the different toys
FOLLOW-UP IDEAS
Keeps toys in the classroom and use them in rotation with the classroom toys, if possible.

BEGINNING
o Have children help with washing their hands
MIDDLE
o If children wish to help with setting up the food, have them put gloves on
o If children do not wish to help with food, have them help with getting the table ready to
eat
EXTENSIONS
o Children can rotate jobs, if every child wants to do the same jobs.
END
o Let the children eat up, and then clean up.
FOLLOW-UP IDEAS
o The same can be done for morning and afternoon snack
