Interpreting

Diagrams:
1. A stimulus is a stimulated reaction which is stimulated by touching, smelling,
hearing or seeing. A response is triggered by a stimulus.
2. Secreted hormones are the hormones released from an organ or gland that travels
through the blood system to the tissues that need it.
3. Receptors are your senses such as touch, taste and sight. These receptors send
messages to your brain which allows your muscles, the effectors to act on these
messages. For example if you touch a hot stove your nerves in your fingers send a
message to your brain to move your hand. The group of muscles that moves your
hand is the effectors.
4. In diagram B your body is sending a message directly through your nervous system
whilst in A the body is producing a hormone and sending it through the blood
stream. The dotted line is used to outline this key difference.
5. Some of the differences between the systems include that in the Endocrine system
hormones are produced and spread either directly through ducts or indirectly
through the blood stream. In the CNS the messages are sent through nerves to
different effectors (muscles). These systems both have a stimulus and both have a
response.
