9th Grade Information Sheet

I-Time - Once a week, block teachers will meet with their group of students and offer
them more independent one-on-one exposure regarding certain topics, such as; building
community, stress management, and chemical awareness. I-time also gives students a
chance to become more personally acquainted with their peers.

Counselor - Barb Nelson (928-6131 or nelson.barb@slpschools.org ) will be the counselor
assigned to strictly 9
th
grade students. She will work individually with them to plan course
schedules, and give academic, vocational and career guidance. She will also be available to
work with students, parents and teachers as liaison to solving problems and serve as an
advocate for the student in relationships with teachers, peers, parents and outside agencies.

Social Worker- Marlee Nirenstein (928-6267 or nirenstein.marlee@slpschols.org ) is our
Social Worker specifically available to just 9
th
grade students. She is available to help
students with social and emotional needs individually as well as in support groups. She will
work as liaison to county and private agencies and act as Parent/Teacher consultant. Marlee
will be available Monday- Thursday.

Greg Buck - Grade Level Coordinator (952-928-6100) GLCs can help freshman with a
variety of concerns and peer issues. They are an available resource and are out walking the
hallways most of the time. One of their main responsibilities is dealing with attendance
issues, such as sending the 3 and 5 day truancy letters.

Therapist - On site therapist, Deb Zelle (928-6123) will be available to work with students
two (2) days a week by referral through the 9
th
grade team.

Chemical Health Specialist -Kjirsten Hanson (952-928-6138 or
hanson.kjirsten@slpschools.org ) is available in this role in a half time position. She will
complete student screenings and act as a resource for both parents and teachers around
chemical health issues.

Student Office/Attendance - The student office is available Monday through Friday from 7:00
a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is the office students should report to if they are coming in late, or
have a note from a parent/guardian to excuse them for an appointment, absence, or tardy.
Please call the attendance line number is 952-928-6045 to report absences, and/or tardies, or
request passes for their student to leave for an appointment.
ABSENCES NEED TO BE REPORTED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF OCCURENCE.



R.S.V.P - Responsible Solutions for Violence Prevention - This program will provide
services to students who have been suspended out of school (OSS) for violent or aggressive
acts. RSVP will provide both academic support and intervention to students and their
families. R.S.V.P is arranged for a student through the Assistant Principal or Director of
Students after a suspension has occurred.

District Nurse and Health Aide - Health Aide, Diana Singleton (928-6108), will be in the
health office Monday through Friday (8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). Diana will be available to
perform daily health related duties, dispense daily meds, and monitor students that come into
the health office during the school day. Amanda Anderson is the Licensed Health Nurse for
the District. Amanda will be available in the building throughout the day to field any
questions or concerns, and to assist in any medical emergencies.

Max Peltola - Police Liaison Officer - The Police Liaison Officer (928-6101) serves as a
resource person to students, parents, teachers, counselors and administrators. This Officer is
available Monday through Friday in the student office. In case of an emergency, please
contact the student office at 928-6100 and a staff person will be able to page him and direct
your concerns as needed.

Scott Meyers Assistant Principal Mr. Meyers is located in the Student Office (928-6110
or meyers.scott@slpschools.org ). He is available to assist students and their families as
needed in regard to any concerns for a student at St. Louis Park High School. He will be the
person to assist with disciplinary incidents, do suspensions, arrange for RSVP and generally
make the 9
th
grade student experience as smooth and successful as possible.

Kari Schwietering Director of Students This office is also located in the Student Office
(952-928-6103 or schwietering.kari@slpschools.org ). Ms. Schwietering is available to assist
students and their families as needed regarding any concerns for a student at St. Louis Park
High School. She will be the person to primarily work with 9
th
graders in all areas including
truancy referrals and disciplinary situations. She is available to help students with any
concern areas and will try to make sure all 9
th
graders needs are being met.

Central Clinic 952-993-1100 - Enter Central Clinic from 35th Street, on the northwest
corner of Central Community Center. Hours: Tuesdays & Wednesdays, from 1:00-4:30 when
school is in session. Located within the Central Community Center, Central Clinic provides
free health care for children from birth through age 18. It is operated through a partnership
between the Park Nicollet Foundation and St. Louis Park Public Schools and is staffed by
Park Nicollet physicians. No appointments are necessary; the clinic operates on a first come,
first serve basis. If an interpreter is required, please call in advance in order to have one
present at the time of your visit. Services offered at Central Clinic include treatment for acute
illnesses, well-child checks, immunizations, camp and sports physicals, and adolescent health
needs. A completed, written consent form signed by a parent or guardian is required
annually, except as excluded under state law (minors may consent for treatment of sexual
health concerns). Consent forms are available on the school web site.
