Fuel consumption and tyre rolling loss in all types of automobiles have become increasingly

important because of adverse environmental effects (Air pollution and global warming) and
economic costs (High petroleum price). Thus, tire industry for its part has developed fuel
efficient tires by reducing tire rolling loss. Tire load and pressure, vehicle speed, stop and go
driving and vehicle styling are some of the parameters that influences the rolling resistance.
Padmanaba S pillai et al., [1] has shown the effect of increase in rolling resistance on the fuel
consumed by a truck or bus. y using schuring!s rolling loss versus fuel consumption he has
concluded that a "##$ increase in rolling loss of a truck tire ( radial tyres) would cause about %&'
(#$ increase in fuel consumption.
Nader Jalili et al., [2] have described that rolling resistance of inflated tires is an important
component of resistance to vehicle motion and contributes to the total load and fuel
consumption. Therefore, many research works have been focused on how the various tire
parameters (e.g., load ( L ), inflation pressure ( P ), and speed (V )) affect rolling resistance so
that fuel economy can be increased. He concluded that, )itrogen inflated tires can maintain tire
pressure *+$ better than shop air per month at normal operating conditions. As a result, nitrogen
inflated tires produce about *#$ less rolling resistance than air inflated tires. ,educing rolling
resistance of tires has a positive influence on the fuel economy and life of a truck tire. This
prevents premature wear of truck tires.
