Purpose of Assignment
Encourage teamwork and cooperative learning among classmates.
Practice using technology for research is a safe environment.
Practice oral speaking and presentation skills.
Learn about the life cycles of different animals.
Compare and contrast the life cycles of these animals after having
learned about each.
Estimated Time to Complete Activities
At least 30 minutes per day for approximately10 days.
1 day to introduce the webquest, show how to navigate the website, and
explain the project
3 days for teams to research their animal.
3 days for teams to plan and prepare for their presentation (including
rehearsing their presentation)
2 days for teams to present their research
1 day for concluding the unit and discussing similarities and differences
among animals
Technology
Computers and/or iPads
Materials
Computers and/or iPads with access to the internet
Pencils
Paper or index cards for note taking and presentation cue cards (or note
taking sheet provided in webquest)
Copy paper for print pictures
Posterboards, cardstock and construction paper for creating a
posterboard (if the team chooses to)
Computers (for creating a PowerPoint presentation if the team chooses
to)
Procedures
Teacher divides students into groups of 3 or 4 students.
Teacher assigns each team an animal.
Teacher explains the teams task and shows them how to navigate the
website.
Teams navigate the website to better understand the project and use the
resources provided for the animal.
Teacher monitors students and provides support and guidance as teams
research their animal.
Teams use their research to choose images and create an oral
presentation to share their findings with the class.
Teacher monitors students and provides support and guidance as teams
plan and prepare for the presentation.
Teams present their findings to the class and are assessed both as a group
and individually (for oral presenting abilities and participation in the
group).
Class has a discussion about the similarities and differences of the animals.
Assessment Tools
Teachers will assess the team and the individual student using the
Presentation Evaluation. (Each student may have a different score due
to differences in individual participation within the group and knowledge
shown during the presentation.)
