Course Title : PHILIPPINE HISTORY AND GOVERNMENT
Course Credit : 3.0 units

Course Description:

This course attempts to familiarize students with the historic events which affected and ultimately
shaped the course of events in our nation then and now. It will focus on the incidents and
consequences that shaped up the course of events in our nation then and now. It will emphasize
on the various socio-economic, political and cultural changes that the Philippines undergone and
presents the interconnection of these changes to the present-day life.

Course Objectives:

The primary objective of this course is to provide a general survey of history of the Filipinos and
the Philippines so that students may appreciate their rich cultural heritage, develop a historical
consciousness and sense of nationalism among the students. It will also assess the current issues
that affect Filipinos lives in the light of historical events.

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
Explain development of national consciousness in the Philippines.
Synthesize the development of nationalism in our country.
Develop an interest in social and political issues.
Come up with an idea on how to eliminate social evils that have existed a century ago.
Participate in any public forum that concerned the fate of the country.
Openly show an ability to analyze political realities.
