Classroom Management

Each child inmy classroom is an important individual that brings with them many different
thoughts, ideas, emotions, and temperaments. My goal is to create asense of community and
belonging inthe classroom sothatchildren treat"each other with respect and kindness and learn
to work collaboratively and productively. The importance of having apositive attitude,
communicating well with others, and expressing oneself in positive ways are encouraged within
my classroom. The ultimate goal is to create alearning environment that is safe, productive, and
engaging. My classroom is afamily and we are all hear to encourage and help one another.
I believe in using open communication and encouragement. I work on creating astrong and
respectful relationship with each child. It is important to communicate and build arelationship
with each child, showing them that you care and respect them. I want the students to develop
strong problem solving skills and to practice their communication skills. They will be
encouraged to be independent, and express themselves with their words, not their hands. I make
use of positive encouragement so children can feel accepted and appreciated.
I believe that theclassroom needs to,beaproq,J J cjjye, safe, and positiveenvironment whereall
students feel welcomed and respected by their teachers and peers. I feel it is important to create
organization within the classroom and to be consistent with schedules, routines and procedures.
My students are involved in the rule making process. I allow the students to work together and
collaborate with one another to come up with the rules that ensure we are safe and respected
within our classroom. I always have my students sign their name onthe rules poster. We are a
community of learners who have agreed upon the necessary rules of the classroom. They are
responsible for following the rules. Once the rules are in place, modeling, practicing, and
reviewing ofthe rules takes place. I believe in consistency. The routines and schedules are
posted and visible to everyone inthe room and everyone is held accountable. In order for all
students to feel safe and secure it is important to be organized and consistent.

I also believe in lots of positive redirection and encouragement. I liketo display the positive
achievements and kind acts that students have done. While I was running summer camp I had
hands for students to write on. The students could write any positive thing they saw other
students doing. I wrote on the hands and all of the students wrote about each other as well. It was
great to see thejoy that the students had when someone wrote something kind about them. They
were all catching each other doing wonderful acts of kindness.
I believe that positive encouragement to the whole class and to students can be public. I
believe that there aretimes topraise publicly and moments to praise only for that child to- hear, I
want the children to celebrate their achievements and success both academically and socially. I
believe that all negative interactions and discussions are to be kept private.
Throughout my time at daycare and during my student teaching I had a"Fun Friday" inmy
classroom. "Fun Friday" is areward that they students earn as aclass. Each time the class goes
beyond what is expected of them or has agreat achievement I add aletter to the board. Letters
are only earned and never taken away. If all of the letters are earned before Friday, then they
receive areward. Rewards can be extra outside time, afun educational game, atime to choose
any center and anything that fits the classroom. Students encourage on another and look forward
to the fun day.
