Unit Overview
Unit Title
Pet Care Transition Series Lunch & Learn Sessions
Unit Summary
The Pet Care Transition Unit is a series of one-hour sessions to build employee capability in
preparation for the divestiture of the brands from Procter & Gamble to the Mars company. The
audience for these sessions is all employees who are newly hired into the Pet Care business who
missed attending a session of Pet Care College (Orientation) and any employee who wants to
improve their knowledge of the products prior to the Mars acquisition.

These sessions are also appropriate for those who completed the Unleashing the Passion of the Paw
unit that provided Pet Care employees with a basic understanding of basic dog and cat nutrition, Pet
Care products, our shopper, our retailers, and other unique components of the business.

Each of the four sessions is comprised of one hour of instructor-led lecture and one-hour of outside
the classroom work. At the conclusion of the series, attendees will be able to use background and
product knowledge to positively promote Pet Care products to consumers and will be able to speak
more confidently (and competently) in their new work environment
Subject Area
Theses sessions will build familiarity and knowledge on addition subject following expected
completion of introductory course creating a strong pet-centric foundation for Pet Care employees.

Topics/subjects covered in these sessions include:
1. Product manufacturing and quality
2. Features and benefits of premium & super-premium dog and cat foods
3. Public Relations
4. Consumers and consumer trends

Approximate Time Needed
Introduction Session = 4 hours of classroom instruction plus 4 hours of online pre-work (two hours of
work for each of the four units) for a total of eight hours of learning.
Unit Foundation
Targeted Content Standards and Benchmarks
As part of Procter & Gamble, employees were assigned to Pet Care to complete a two or three-year
tour of duty. There were employees who were excited to be part of such an exciting business and
Intel Teach Program
Essentials Course

were sure to enroll in Pet Care College, the three-day introduction to the business, products, and
nutrition and attend every extracurricular event the business held to further learning. However,
there were others who saw their role in Pet Care as simply an assignment for a finite period of two
years and didnt invest in their industry learning. Both subsets of employees need to ensure they
have the best grasp of dog and cat nutrition and product knowledge to ensure continued success at
the new company.

Prior to the close of sale and integration into the Mars company, employees need to have a strong
understanding and working knowledge about all aspects of the Pet Care business. This series of four
Lunch and Learns will provide an excellent opportunity for transitioning employees to better
understand critical components of Pet Cares competitive advantage: product safety and quality; the
features & benefits of premium and super premium dog and cat foods; Public Relations and how they
manage donations and animal research concerns; and, customer services role in supporting the Pet
Care business.

Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
At the end of this introductory unit, attendees will be able to:
Understand and describe knowledge about pet food manufacturing
Understand, describe and influence others using information about pet food quality and safety
