HAIL!
Welcome to another FREE issue of
Slaughterama. After much discussion, debate
and reader consultation, we found that even
though most people would be more than happy
to pay for the zine, that we enjoy making it
available for free so much that we are going to
hold out for as long as possible on charging our
readers and attempt to bring sponsors on board
instead to defray production expenses.
This month we present another 3 high calibre
inteviews; Just One Fix, Torture Killer, and of
course, Opeth.
Make sure you check out our new segment, the
New Zealand Heavy Metal Top Ten chart, to find
out what's worth a listen.
As always, thanks very much for your support,
and if you are a company, or know of anyone who
would like to sponsor, donate, or advertise with
Slaughterama, do not hesitate to contact us!
Have a great month everyone, and I'll catch you
all next issue if | don't see you round before then.
STAY TRUE!

10K)The Finnish Death Metal terrorists TORTURE
KILLER made quite an entrance in 2003 with their
debut album “For Maggots to Devour." Nine
tracks featuring groovy, old-school Death in the
vein of Obituary and Six Feet Under, which
received excellent reviews and established the
band as one of the leading extreme Metal acts in
Finland.
‘The new album “Swarm!” featuring Six Feet
Under's Chris Barnes on vocals is in stores now,
and following the release we got in touch with
Kim Torniainen, the bassist of TORTURE KILLER,
who answered a few of our questions.
‘What is the latest news from Torture Killer? What
have you been up to
lately?
Nothing special, just getting
‘on with our lives as usual
Working, studying, writing
new songs etc
The new album "Swarm"
is out now. What can we
expect from Torture Killer
this time around?
Brutal old schoo! Death
Metal, with chugging &
groovy riffs and the
‘occasional melody. We're
definitely not trying to break
any bpm-records here,
hehe
Give us alittle
background information
on the band, How fong
have you been together?
Are any of the band
members involved in any other projects?
‘The band has been together since 2002, and the
current lineup has been in action since 2005, Gur
drummer Latvala also plays in (the legendary)
Demigod and Deepred, and our other guitarist
Karppinen plays also in Deeored and in Funeral
Feast
‘The songs are rather bloodthirsty and
provocative, Where does the inspiration come
from?
Serial Killers, the madness of humanity, death,
horror, etc
For many “normal” people the lyrics would be an
immediate turn off. Why is it that gory and
‘sadistic lyrics are so popular among Death Metal
bands and fans?
I's something that is expected, | think. Death Metalfans are usually horror & gore movie fans too, se the
topies presented in Death Metal are just a different
‘way of expressing the same things
How would you like the audience to approach
Torture Killer? Meaning: what is the message
behind the band?
‘We have no "message" per se, we're just musicians
and Death Metal fans trying to write the music we
ourselves like to play and listen. If you enjoy it, listen
to it Ifyou don't ike it, don't isten to it. Simple as,
that.
Finland has been very productive in terms of
Metal bands coming out of the country. However
we don't get too much Finnish Death here in NZ.
How is the situation with Death Metal in Finland?
Pretty good actually, i.e bands like Demiged,
Sotajumala, Deeored, Siugathor, Cadaveric
incubator, Kataplexia, Nerlich and Fornjotr are all
excelient bands worth checking out, and theyre
definitely not the only ones. New bands come out all
the time.
What are your musical influences?
‘Obituary, Six Feet Under, Batt
‘Thrower (the obvious ones),
also Strapping Young Lad,
Angelcorpse, Malevolent
‘Creation, Sepultura (Pre-
‘Chaos A 0) ete.
etc. There are too many
names to be mentioned here
How often do you play live
and what sorts of bands do
you play with?
Mainly with Death & Thrash
Metal bands, but we've also
played gigs with hardcore
bands, which is fun because
‘we all like hardcore music (like:
Madball, from which we've
actually played a cover) and
‘our music seems to work with
a hardcore crowd too. We play every once and a
\while but not foo often at this point, because we have
our day jobs to take care of and Chris is a member of
SFU, which is a professional band that tours and
Works all the time. But, hopefully we'll do more gigs in
the future, when the time is right. Maybe at the end of
this year, but nothing is certain yet
When you hear about New Zealand, what's the
first thing that comes in to your head?
Sheep, haha. Anda place I'd like to visit someday,
as I'm a traveling addict
‘Your plans for the nearest future? And when are
you coming to New Zealand?!
Writing new songs ang (like | mentioned before)
maybe do some tounng later this year. | honestly
don't know when we'll be able to come to NZ, but
hopefully we'll get there someday.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Thanks for the interview, and keep supporting Death
Metal 2.
