They will also develop science, math, and observational skills as they learn about the different types of leaves. Through song and movement children will have an opportunity to enhance large motor skills. Children will also develop fine motor skills when they engage in the leaf collecting and leaf collage activity. Brief description of the lesson Children will listen to the first page of the book Fall leaves Fall. Teacher will write on chart paper and ask children, How do we know when fall is coming? Children will have an opportunity to respond to the question. Teacher will write responses on chart paper. Teacher will explain to the children that after the read aloud they will compare their answers to the information in the book. Children will engage in leaf collecting activity, and collage making. This lesson is: A new concept/activity A review of a previous lesson/activity A continuation of a previous lesson/activity A conclusion of a concept Rationale Why is there a need for this lesson? Children in the class need to further develop recall and discussion skills, and fine motor skills. They have also expressed an interest in the weather changes, new season, and the leaves in the park. Read the story to children. Fall Leaves Fall By Zoe Hall Encourage children to notice the colors, similarities and differences on the leaves. Pause during the read aloud and ask the children Have you seen any of these leaves before? Continue to read. Pause and ask children, How do you think the leaves end up on the floor in the fall?

Discuss the story with the children. Compare the information from the text to their answers (written on chart paper)
Explain to the children that we will be going on a leave hunt, and we will use the leaves we find to create leave collages.
Show children the bags to put the leaves inside. Show the children real leaves from their neighborhood park. Model how to find and pick up a leaf, and how to open the bag and put the leaf inside. Ask a child to show you how to find, pick up and put the leaf in a bag. (Collect leaves from the park during out door time) Independent Practice (small group activity, working with partners, or independently) Children will use the leaves we found and other nature item, along with buttons and ribbons to make fall leave collages. Children will use construction paper, the leaves, and other materials to create the collages. Closure (sharing/reflection, next steps) Children will share their collages during afternoon meeting. They will decide if they want to take it home, or hang it in the class. Children will listen to other children as they talk about their collages. Teachers will encourage children to be good listeners, and to describe the leaves using new vocabulary: heart shaped, round, tear drop, or spear. Children can also name the color of the leaves.
